Perspectives: April 28 & May 5
Join our own Tim Cahn and Helen Yune Trowbridge @ 11:30 AM in the sanctuary for a two-part series on essential personal documents. If you do nothing else to help yourself and your loved ones, you should prepare these three documents. In case you become incapacitated, they will help your loved ones help you, and in the certainty of your death, a proper will will be a gift to those you want to benefit. This Perspectives class will examine these three practical documents as well as engage common questions that come up when planning for one’s death.

Perspectives: Holding Onto Hope!
Join Carol Campbell on February 11th and 18th at 11:30! In this two-part series, we will explore what psychologists and theologians tend to say about holding onto hope when despair is in the wings. How can we bear witness to tragedies and apocalyptic warnings at every turn, without getting lost in depression, rage, anxiety, and hopelessness? How can we as Christians live our lives with genuine trust in the goodness of God’s creation, and model for the world how each of us can be part of the solutions to the staggering problems we face?

Perspectives: Mendelssohn's Elijah, Old Testament Drama in Music
In this Perspectives series, led by John Prescott, we will delve into Felix Mendelssohn's ground breaking oratorio Elijah. The story of the prophet Elijah contains some of the most dramatic episodes in the Old Testament. In this work for chorus, soloists, and orchestra, Mendelssohn uses music to explore the complex, tender, and stormy relationship between God, Elijah and the people of Israel.

Join us on October 22nd and 29th for Perspectives @ 11:30AM!
Join us on October 22nd and 29th at 11:30AM for a two-part series led by Sharon Huey titled, “Befriending Death: Reflecting Well on the End of Our Lives”.
The Amish have a saying: “Dying people are a gift because of the love they bring out in the community.” What a compelling vision! And yet, our mainstream American culture, steeped as it is in hyper-individualism and “positivity”, does not prepare us well for experiences of loss, grief, and death. What would it mean for us, in Henri Nouwen’s words, to “befriend our own deaths”? How might reflecting on our own mortality deepen our sense of what it means to be human—with its limits, vulnerabilities and beautiful complexities—and open us up to God and each other?
In this two-part series, we will consider these questions as well as reflect on the liturgical rituals the Church has been given to prepare us for “a good death”, one which is rooted in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Our aim is to invite theology and the liturgical practices of the Church to enlarge our vision about how we live and how we die.

Join us for Perspectives @ 11:30AM!
Join us for the second week of Perspectives this Sunday the 24th at 11:30AM, facilitated by The Rev. Dr. Leslie Veen! We will be engaging with the author and theologian Diana Butler Bass’s book Freeing Jesus. Last week we considered ways in which Jesus is a friend, teacher, and savior. This week we will discuss ways that Jesus is understood as Lord, Way, and presence.
